Chasing the Podium

Thunder Valley Pro Motocross Trophies

For the past five years, I've been lucky enough to take on the creation of the Pro Motocross trophies for the Thunder Valley National race. It's bar-none one of my favorite projects each year -- where I get to blend my love for moto with my current trade.

After lots of great feedback, this year we brought back the bike stand concept.

The 2022 stands are made of 100% wood, featuring a mix of spalted walnut and eastern red cedar. The logos are engraved into the walnut, and the placings are filled with an Ecopoxy resin. The stands are structurally sound enough to hold a dirt bike, so they’re not just for looks.

450cc champ, Ken Roczen, has taken home three of the five trophies we've built. I got the chance to chat with him for a bit, and he said he planned to use his stand for a trophy bike at home. Hoping to see that insta pic soon!

I also was able to grab a photo op with three other podium winners and their trophies. The Lawrence brothers secured first and second in the 250cc, and Chase Sexton took home third in the 450cc. Quite the showing for Team Honda out at Lakewood -- four out of the six podium placings!

Even though it was just three days ago, I'm already brainstorming for next year. What do you guys think? Should we do a different twist on the bike stands, or should we revamp with something totally different altogether? Let me know in the comments below.

Can't make up your mind? Here's all the designs we've done up to this point.

Check back next week to see more photos from the race! We should be getting some from the pro's who were out there with the big cameras soon.
